The Promise Land is just up ahead. Can you see it?
Perhaps that seems a strange way to start this ‘Looking Back” section, but it’s true. Just like the Israelites of the Old Testament, we sit at a dividing line. Behind us is all we’ve ever known and a whole slew of crazy events. Ahead is…well what? Ahead is an unknown promised land that we’ve been told is full of fruit and giants. This dividing line that we sit on, forces us to decide where we will set our gaze. Have we really come into the wilderness to worship Him, and do we really trust Him for what’s up ahead? These questions must be answered, because they determine whether our “looking back” will be at the memorial stones of God’s faithfulness or in longing for Egypt. Our family invites you to join us as we set out to worship him in the wilderness. Come set your gaze on him as He leads us in a cloud of glory, and remember with us as we look back at the memorials of what He has already done.
Our Looking Back- the Last Months
If you are reading this then I’m sure you already know the adventure we are on, but we’ll give a recap just in case you don’t. In May, Edward and I watched a video called “A Tale of Three Dreams.” It outlined three dreams, 2 of Reinhard Bonnke’s and 1 of Daniel Kolenda, about the Gospel being preached in all Africa and beyond via mass crusades and evangelism. The last dream specifically was about seeing a decade of double harvest where 150 million souls would come to know Christ over the next ten years. As we watched, our hearts burned (I wept). These dreams led Daniel Kolenda and Christ for All Nations to establish an Evangelism Bootcamp that would train and equip those who have felt a call to evangelism. Ed and I both applied, and then we waited. As we waited the Lord made it clear to us that we needed to sell our house and renew our passports QUICKLY! Two weeks afterwards our house was on the market and our passport applications were in. A month and an interview later, Ed and I found out we had been accepted to the bootcamp (we were 2 of 100 accepted for next year’s class from all over the world!).
Since our acceptance, our house has sold, a live-in nanny (and friend) has been found, and our things have been graciously stored in another friend’s barn until we need them. I (Katherine) have also been able to come to Florida with my kids to find a place for us to live while we learn.
It is so amazing to me how God doesn’t let anything go to waste. As I sit here and look back at the last months and years of my and my family’s lives, I see how he has not only been present, but orchestrating. He truly is divine. His ability to work things together into a beautiful tapestry of life is astounding! May we never lose our fascination with Him and all He has done!
Looking Forward
This is what our immediate future looks like. It looks like leaving behind much of what we and our children have known and setting out on a journey to worship God with our whole hearts. It means being refined through a wilderness. It means following His lead through unknown spaces. It means dwelling in the shelter of His presence, even now, as we long for the fullness of His promise.
It also means we are crossing over. We aren’t here to wander. We are here to go in. We are here to take the land, to reap its harvest, and to see the establishment of the Kingdom of God. He is our King. We are His people. His glory dwells among us, and we look forward to the day when we will stand before His throne, worshiping him as He deserves.
